The PTBIOP is organising a course to get familiarised with the underlying principles and advanced concepts in modern light microscopy.

The focus of this course, which will take place between August 19th and September 23rd 2024, will be state-of-the-art techniques mainly relevant to biology/life science students. However, this course is open to participants from other faculties as well. An essential part of this course will be spent on the demonstrations/explanations of how challenging questions in biology/life science can be addressed using light microscopy. It will include advanced concepts like time-lapse imaging, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), fluorescence lifetime microscopy (FLIM), fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), and high/super-resolution techniques like structured illumination, stimulated emission depletion (STED) and localisation techniques.

The course is open to everyone, however, PhD students will have priority. To apply for this course, please fill out the following form. Application deadline is on May 3rd, 2024.

Your application will be also evaluated based on the short motivation letter (maximum 3000 characters including spaces) explaining why you are interested in this course and underlining its importance for your scientific project. The course is free for EPFL members, the course fee is 500 CHF for non-EPFL academic participants and 2000 CHF for non-academic participants.
