A new paper published in the journal Energies
We are pleased to share our new paper "Large-Eddy Simulation of Wind Turbine Flows: A New Evaluation of Actuator Disk Models" published in Energies (DIO)
The paper presents an evaluation of actuator disk models for large eddy simulation of wind turbine flows based on a test case studied experimentally. In contrast to previous works which were based on simplified or incomplete test cases, the present test case consists of a wind turbine immersed in a realistic turbulent boundary-layer flow, for which accurate data for the turbine, the flow, the thrust and the power are available. The results confirm some of the conclusions drawn on the basis of simplified or incomplete test cases, but also bring new conclusions. Overall, the results give important guidelines for the implementation of actuator disk models for large eddy simulation of wind turbine flows
