A Day of Inspirational Talks to Mark International Women's Day 2021

To mark International Women’s Day 2021, EPFL hosted a series of online interviews and discussions on a wide variety of subjects, highlighting some key local and international female figures.
After an introduction by Martin Vetterli, the President of EPFL, Gisou van der Goot, Vice-President for Responsible Transformation, hosted the online event, which welcomed a mixture of virtual and in-person speakers.
We were joined by Tatyana Franck of Lausanne’s Musée de l’Elysée, Manon Schick from the Direction générale de l’enfance et de la jeunesse in Vaud and Madeleine von Holzen, Editor-in-Chief at Le Temps and Heidi.news, who shared their experiences and thoughts.
The day included a discussion with EPFL’s student association Polyquity, who gave us an insight into their Paye ton EPFL campaign, Farnaz Moser, from the Science Outreach Department, who shared her dedication to engaging young people with science and technology and a detailed look into the Women Alumni Career Survey conducted in Summer 2020.
Felicitas Pauss, ETH and CERN Professor and recipient of the 2012 Erna Hamburger Prize, gave an inspiring insight into her incredible career before joining EPFL Professors Fontcuberta i Morral, Lambertini, Radenovic and Scrivener for a discussion on improving women’s participation in academia.
Finally, the keynote speech of the day was given by world-renowned historian and author Andrea Wulf who presented her book “The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World” before discussing her process and other key topics with Gisou van der Goot.
