30 km/h zone. What does it mean?

© 2011 EPFL
A 30 km/h zone is made up of sections of roads along which the activities of those on foot are favoured in relation to traffic.
Various measures remind users that the speed is limited at 30 km/h.
A few rules to keep in mind:
• Priority to the right applies
• Pedestrians do not have priority, but may cross where they like. In general, there are no designated pedestrian crossings
• Where pedestrian crossings remain, pedestrians must use them
• Drivers must be particularly prudent and attentive. They should make it comfortable for pedestrians to cross
• Vehicles nonetheless have priority. Pedestrians are to cross the road with all necessary caution
• After the “Fin de zone 30” sign indicating the end of the 30 km/h zone, the standard 50 km/h speed limit applies
This message is meant to encourage positive interactions among users and reduce difficulties: less danger, fewer accidents, and less stress.
