Established in 2014, the Physics Doctoral Thesis Award (EDPY Prize) is presented each year to PhD students whose research stands out for its exceptional scientific merit. The prize recognizes theses that have significantly advanced our understanding of physics, whether through groundbreaking theoretical insights, innovative experimental techniques, or impactful interdisciplinary contributions. It highlights not only the quality of the scientific results, but also the originality, rigor, and overall influence of the work within the broader physics community.
The Doctoral Program in Physics is thrilled to announce the following 2025 laureates who have been honored with the prize:
- Mauricio Cruz Reyes (R. Anderson) - Absolute calibration of standard candles in the Gaia era
- Rita Agus (I. Furno) - Fundamentals on the mechanisms involved in plasma-activated water decontamination
- Manuel Loparco (J. Penedones) - A Hilbert Space Approach to Quantum Field Theory in de Sitter
In addition, all three laureates have secured a well-deserved place in the Best 8% Distinction of the Doctoral School, to which also belongs:

- Samuel Nyckees (F. Mila) - Thermal melting in 2D classical and quantum systems: a tensor network study
