The annual intensive Course on Energy Geostructures: Analysis and Design for 2023 is now open for applications.

EPFL’s Laboratory of Soil Mechanics (LMS) is proud to announce the 2023 edition of our popular 3-day intensive course, Energy Geostructures: Analysis and Design. Energy geostructures are an innovative, environmentally friendly and multifunctional technology that are playing an ever-increasingly important role in addressing global energy demands and as a renewable energy source, are helping to address the challenges of climate change.

Held at EPFL and online from the 06-08 of November 2023, the course aims at providing a sound theoretical background as well as practical examples and exercises to develop your knowledge of the behaviour and performance of energy piles, barrettes, slabs, walls and tunnels. The geotechnical, structural and energy design of previous energy geostructures will be explored through lectures, hand exercises and numerical simulations.

Developed and presented by some of the world’s leading experts on energy geostructures, by participating, you will:

  • Understand the thermal and mechanical behaviour of energy geostructures based on the latest scientific advances
  • Be able to perform energy, geotechnical and structural design of energy geostructures
  • Learn how to exploit current standards available at the European level (e.g., the so-called “Eurocodes”) for the design of energy geostructures
  • Experiment with practical exercises and all the key steps involved in the analysis and design process of energy geostructures
  • Learn some practical examples of recent projects worldwide

Our course aims to assist scientists and practitioners alike, ranging from civil engineers, energy engineers, mechanical engineers, and environmental engineers, to architects, urban project managers, geotechnicians and geologists. No prior knowledge of energy geostructures is required.

Participant numbers are limited, and places will be filled on a first come first served basis so be sure to enroll quickly.More information about the course program and registration can be found on the course's website. We can’t wait to see you at EPFL and share our knowledge of this interesting and innovative technology
