Kyungjin Kim, a former Post-Doc of the Laboratory for Processing of Advanced Composites, won the first prize of the Voir Est Savoir 2020 image competition.

The magical polar region is filled with icebergs and northern lights. And look, there is an unrevealed submarine creature carrying a secret of the ice age! The SEM cross-section of 6 dyads of metal oxides and Parylene C polymer barrier film was on the process of getting ion-polished. This multilayer barrier was tested under a harsh environment over 4 months, yet the conformally coated nanoscale oxide layers are exposed while the polishing cut-through the particle near the barrier.

Kyungjin Kim is now a postdoctoral fellow in the Lacour lab for Soft BioEletronic Interfaces working on ultrabarrier encapsulated neuroprosthetics.
