Visit of Prof. Muhammad Yunus

On the 11th of July, the VPI was delighted to welcome Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Founder of Grameen Bank on the EPFL campus.

Prof. Yunus, is a Bangladeschi economist and entrepreneur who has established the first microfinance institution, the Grameen Bank. Founded in 1983, Grameen Bank has over 9 million borrowers, 97% of which are women. Having received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for this action, Prof. Yunus had a very fruitful discussion with Prof. Marc Gruber and the Vice Presidency for Innovation (VPI) team on themes ranging from social entrepreneurship to sport. As part of the delegation for the Paris 2024 Olympic games, Prof. Yunus is actively working on the cross-cutting these of entrepreneurship and sports and how to turn athletes into entrepreneurs. Prof. Yunus also had a mini tour of the EPFL Campus and also visited the Rolex Learning Centre.
