Prof. Yves Weinand will give a lecture on November 5th at the 2018 Joint Convention, organized by the Society of Wood Science and Technology (SWST) and The Japan Wood Research Society (JWRS).

The lecture, entitled Innovative Timber Structure will introduce the work of IBOIS laboratory. It will take place at the Noyori Conference Hall, Nagoya University, from 4:15 pm and will be followed by a discussion.

Abstract :

Practical and material orientated academic research has become increasingly important for architecture practice. Today’s architects are looking for a deeper understanding of technical and technological questions related to architecture. Research carried out at IBOIS aims to provide answers to one of the main architectural challenge of our time, namely sustainable architecture.
Latest developments and innovations in this domain have shown high potential for a new generation of timber structure. Integral mechanical attachments inspired by traditional woodworking joints allow the assembly of timber panels without mechanical fasteners of adhesive bonding, and digital fabrication combined with parametric geometries open up new dimensions for massive timber construction and prefabrication. The IBOIS laboratory pushes limits in timber architecture, through architectural constructions, such as La Chapelle Saint Loup or more recently the new Vidy Theatre Pavilion
