Launch of the Eccellenza call postponed, probably by 1 month.

On 19 October 2021, the SNSF announced that the launch of the Eccellenza call will be postponed, probably by 1 month.

Consequently, the call will not open on November 1 (unlike previous years), but probably in December 2021.

Applicants who meet the personal requirements for Eccellenza remain eligible to apply, regardless of the date of the call.

Please note: although the launch of the Eccellenza call has been postponed, the SNSF strives to maintain the timeline of the call unchanged. Meaning: the earliest starting date of the project will still be January 1, 2023. This implies that the review process should not be reduced. Consequently, the call deadline may stay on February 1st, 2021 (or be delayed by just a couple of weeks). So keep working hard on your application and do not count on any additional time!!

Starting from this year, Eccellenza Applicants, who are supported by an EPFL host School, can benefit from the ReO Grant Writing services on a first-come-first-serve basis (contact [email protected] to book a slot).

Why has the launch of the Eccellenza call been postponed?

Because the SNSF may offer a transitional solution also for the ERC Starting Grants 2022.

Switzerland is currently a non-associated third country in the EU's Horizon Europe. Thus, for the time being, Switzerland is not eligible for the ERC Starting Grants 2022. Consequently, the SNSF may receive a mandate from the federal government to offer a transitional measure for researchers who wanted to apply for an ERC Starting Grant in 2022.

The Research Office will inform you promptly on any change relative to the status of Switzerland and the eligibility of Swiss-based applicants concerning the ERC Starting Grants 2022, as well as any impact it may have on the SNSF Eccellenza call.
