Professor Lignos gave a short course on collapse risk assessment of structures subjected to earthquake loading in University of Naples Federico II

Earthquake-induced collapse risk assessment has a very important impact both for the design of new structures and for the assessment of existing ones. The main objectives of the short course were to (1) allow students understanding the physical phenomena leading to structural collapse; (2) allow students developing knowledge of basic mechanical models used to represent mathematically the physical phenomena. This was facilitated with the use of interactive tools and software that allows for the earthquake-induced collapse risk assessment. Approaches to estimate the earthquake-induced collapse risk through the use of collapse fragility curves and seismic hazard curves were shown and finally several case studies were presented with direct implications to seismic design and assessment provisions.
