A new online tool enables you to choose protective gloves adapted to your laboratory activities. The Occupational Safety and Health Service (SB-SST) of EPFL’s School of Basic Sciences is responsible for launching this initiative.

In a laboratory, protecting your hands is not always straightforward . There are many types of gloves, and even more harmful or dangerous substances. The SST service has just launched an Internet site which makes it possible to make the right choice from the gloves available in the EPFL stores.

Choosing is now really easy. You just need to specify the category and chemical substance that you are handling, and whether the gloves are to be re-used or not. The results are displayed in list form. The gloves’ name and brand are mentioned, as well as their thickness, protection level, and the faculty store where they are available.

The site is easy to use, open to everyone, and very comprehensive. A technical factsheet is available for each glove, specifying the uses for which it is designed. In addition, there is a video showing how to correctly remove soiled gloves.
