Prof. Lyesse Laloui special guest of the emission CQFD of RTS
Prof. Lyesse Laloui was the special guest of the emission CQFD on the RTS as specialist of soils.
Prof. Lyesse Laloui was the special guest of the emission CQFD of the "Radio Télévison Romande" to speak about his work and about his research on the behaviour of soils and the applications related to the problems of energy supply. Prof. Laloui explained at first the basic concepts of the soil mechanics and the typical phenomena of these materials, which includes soils, rocks and certain concrete types (non-linear elasticity, plasticity, dilatance, confinement, critical state, etc.). The multi-phase nature of the grounds and rocks was also highlighted. Prof. Laloui explained the importance of understanding the behaviour of soils through practical examples (foundations, roads, embankments, storage of CO2, etc.). The discussion also approached the current question of the renewable energy and the perspectives for Switzerland in the next years. Finally, Prof. Laloui explained the functioning of the energy geo-structures.
