The EPFL Alumni Maroc community has invited Prof. Lyesse Laloui to discuss innovation and sustainable development during a Conference-Debate held in Casablanca on October 8th 2019.

Prof. Lyesse Laloui, who has been nurturing innovation for many years in the fields of construction and geotechnics, will have the opportunity to discuss the main innovations developed at the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics (LMS) during the last few years.

Energy geostructures, the 2.0 version of foundations that act as heat exchangers integrated within building and infrastructure foundations, will be highlighted. This innovative solution, that has grown considerably worldwide in the last decade, allows not only to heat but also to sustainably cool buildings. This novel, clean and durable energy source is not without relevance for Morocco, a country with ambitious objectives for developing renewable energies. During this conference, Prof. Lyesse Laloui will have the opportunity to emphasize the applicability of energy geostructures within the Moroccan context, and will also present more recent innovations such as soil bio-cementation.

During this conference, a special emphasis will be placed on industrial applications for these innovations, which will be illustrated by the recent achievements of the spin-off GEOEG, co-founded by Prof. Lyesse Laloui.

The conference, organized jointly by the EPFL Alumni Maroc Association and the Chambre du Commerce suisse au Maroc (CCSM) will take place on the 8th October 2019 at the Hotel Hyatt Regency in Casablanca.
