Prof Jan Belis, Advances in structural glass research

Summary: The topic of this presentation is the structural use of glass. More specifically, a selection of the ongoing research in this domain at Ghent University is presented, including the work on robustness of statically indeterminate reinforced glass beams. Furthermore, a short overview is given on recent advances in structural glass standardisation, in particular on the development of the oncoming Eurocode 10 on structural glass.

Short CV: Jan Belis holds a PhD degree and an MSc degree from Ghent University, Belgium. He is professor at the Department of Structural Engineering of Ghent University, as well as at the Structural Design Unit of Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. His main research focus is on structural glass. Furthermore, he is co-organiser of several international conferences in this field and is Editor-in-Chief of the Springer journal “Glass Structures & Engineering”. Finally, he is Project Team member in charge of the CEN TS (future Eurocode on Structural Glass) and Belgian delegate in CEN TC250 SC11 (Structural Glass).
