Outstanding paper award of journal "Materials and Structures"

The paper "Numerical evaluation of test setups for determining the shear strength of masonry" by Shenghan Zhang, Nicolas Richart and Katrin Beyer has been selected as an outstanding paper by the Editorial Board of "Materials and Structures". The paper uses recently implemented models by EESD to look at test setups for determining the shear strength of interfaces and shows that while friction coefficient is well estimated (the error is less than 10%), the local cohesion is underestimated by the investigated three test setups and the error lies between 13 and 32%;
