The public PhD presentation of Anh Chi Nguyen will be held on August 14th 2020, at 4:00 PM (CEST) by zoom-videoconference.

Her thesis entitled A Structural Design Methodology for Freeform Timber Plate Structures Using Wood-Wood Connections provides a new design methodology for the structural analyses of freeform timber plate structures using wood-wood connections

This research was conducted at the laboratory for timber constructions IBOIS under the supervision of Prof. Yves Weinand. This thesis provides a design methodology for the structural analysis of large-scale freeform timber structures with wood-wood connections. A design framework is introduced to automate the generation of a proposed numerical model based on the finite element method. This research was applied to a specific case study, namely the Annen Plus SA head office project in Manternach, Luxembourg, which consists of a series of double-layered double-curved timber plate shells. The numerical model was built for both small- and large-scale structures of 7 and 24 m span respectively and assessed through experimental investigations. The gained knowledge can facilitate the design and realisation of integrally attached timber plate structures at building scale.

The public defence will be held over Zoom on Friday August 14th at 16h00 (CEST). To attend the public defence, use the following link: https://epfl.zoom.us/j/95005451975 (Meeting ID: 95005451975).
