Prof. Janzer was recognized “for his solution of several outstanding problems in extremal graph theory, including the Erdős–Sauer regular subgraph problem and the Erdős–Simonovits problem on the growth of Turán numbers.”
Awarded biennially at the European Conference on Combinatorics, Graph Theory and Applications, the European Prize in Combinatorics recognizes outstanding achievements by young researchers in the field. Eligible candidates must be European and no older than 35 years of age.
The prize committee, comprising leading mathematicians Jacob Fox, Jaroslav Nešetřil, and Stéphan Thomassé, selected three recipients this year. In addition to Oliver Janzer, awards were given to Matija Bucić (Princeton University) and jointly to Cosmin Pohoata (Emory University) and Dmitrii Zakharov (MIT).
The awards were conferred by Professor Nešetřil, alongside Abel Prize laureates Endre Szemerédi and László Lovász.
