Nomination of Prof. Pierre Vandergheynst as Academic Director

With the restructuring of EPFL, the CIS Board of Directors proposed to adapt the structure of the Center for Intelligent Systems as well. We are happy to announce that EPFL’s Vice President for Academic affairs, Prof. Jan S. Hesthaven, upon proposition by the Associate Vice President for the Centers and Platforms, Prof. Anna Fontcuberta I Morral, decided to nominate Prof. Pierre Vandergheynst as Academic Director of CIS starting January 1, 2021 for a period of 4 years. 

Pierre Vandergheynst is a Professor of Electrical Engineering who researches how to handle unstructured data, with special emphasis on information processing and machine learning on graphs.

Further, the following additional changes have been implemented at CIS:

  • Jan S. Hesthaven has left the CIS Board of Directors and has been replaced by Paul Dyson, the new Dean of SB
  • Jan Kerschgens will continue in his role of Executive Director of CIS working together with Pierre Vandergheynst.
  • Pierre and Jan will report to the CIS Board of Directors for strategic matters and to Anna Fontcuberta i Moral, the VPA of Center and Platforms at EPFL, for operational matters.
  • The CIS Scientific Committee will continue to report to the CIS Board of Directors.
