"Financing the Chain"

Abstract

Supply chain management is widely accepted as a means for companies to gain competitive advantage. While product and information flows have been widely covered in the literature, relatively little attention has been paid to the management of a supply chain's finances. In this article we review the importance of managing supply chain financial flows. We propose three trade credit strategies and their applicability depending on a given industry context. Furthermore, we highlight an innovative example of a win-win strategy (reverse factoring) and examine its benefits in practice through a survey of finance and operations managers
