The Vice Presidency for Finance (VPFI) is pleased to announce the launch of the new inventory application. You can find this application on the Sesame portal.

Tested and adopted by the School of Life Sciences, the application enables the management of the inventory process, from start to finish, in a simplified way.

A user-friendly tool

The development of a new application was necessary in order to provide employees with a user-friendly tool allowing the different inventory related tasks to be performed more easily (inventory record creation, transfers and write-offs).

The long-lasting assets belonging to EPFL can now be inventoried, located and monitored thus ensuring better sharing and equipment renewal planning. Thanks to a rigorous and well-defined process, EPFL's assets will remain under control while respecting the various accounting requirements and legal obligations the School, as a whole, is subject to.

Background information

The launch of the application follows the entry into force of the Inventory directive (LEX 5.9.1) on June 1st. The main changes introduced in LEX 5.9.1 include the increase from CHF 5’000 to CHF 10’000 (including VAT) of the mandatory threshold for the inventory of scientific assets (due to an internal directive, the threshold is set at CHF 5’000 for the School of Life Sciences), the appointment of an Inventory Coordinator in each unit, the creation of the EPFL Inventory Coordinator position (Mr. Bruno Riccini) as well as a better categorization of assets to be inventoried.

The thresholds for IT equipment and other assets have also been clarified. For more information, please consult the inventory directive.

Contacts and training

A support service is now available for technical and business related enquiries and training will be offered to those who are interested. Please find all the necessary information for the use of the application (contacts, user guide, tutorial, training calendar) on the inventory page of the EPFL website.

We warmly thank all the teams of the Vice Presidency for Finance (VPFI) and the Vice Presidency for Information Systems (VPSI) who have worked on this project, as well as the pilot units who helped us improve the application.
