The National Approach for Interoperable Repositories and Findable Research Results (NAIF) project — co-funded by swissuniversities and led by eight partner institutions — is launching a national survey to map and better understand the landscape of institutional repositories in Switzerland.
The EPFL Library is an active contributor to the NAIF project and is fully engaged in the development and implementation of this national survey.

The NAIF survey investigates how repositories are managed, described, and sustained, including their infrastructure, metadata practices, governance, and long-term strategies. It aims to identify shared strengths, gaps, and challenges, paving the way for a national roadmap aligned with international standards and open science principles.
It is addressed to repository managers and service leads from Swiss higher education institutions operating repositories or CRIS systems. Each repository manager will be contacted directly to participate.

The questionnaire draws inspiration from major international initiatives such as theNORF Survey of Open Repositories in Ireland, the OpenAIRE / LIBER / SPARC Europe / COAR Joint Survey of Open Repositories in Europe ; the COAR consultation “Crafting a Vision for European Repositories”, and and the institutional repository workflow survey carried out within the Working Group 2 (Taskforce 1: Metadata in Institutional Repositories) of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information.

The survey will deliver the first national overview of repository maturity and practices in Switzerland. Results will inform coordinated actions and shared services, with aggregated findings published openly on Zenodo within the NAIF community — contributing to a stronger and more connected Swiss open science ecosystem.
