School of Engineering PhD student Martin Lentz has received the first place student presentation award at the leading photonics conference SPIE Europe.

Martin Lentz, a PhD student in the Galatea Lab led by Yves Bellouard, received a first place student presentation award for his work, "Manufacturing of 3D Glass Micro-Optics through Laser Assisted Topological Transformation". The award was given at the SPIE Europe conference on lasers and photonics for advanced manufacturing, held in Strasbourg, France from April 12-16th.

Research in the Galatea lab, based in Neuchatel, explores novel paradigms to tailor material properties locally using lasers, with the goal of 'writing' functions in materials to transform them into sophisticated components and systems.
