Manolis Karpathiotakis receives EuroSys PhD Award

Manolis Karpathiotakis, who completed his PhD in the EPFL School of Computer and Communication Sciences (IC) Data-Intensive Applications and Systems Lab (DIAS), is the 2019 winner of the EuroSys Roger Needham PhD Award.
Karpathiotakis won the honor for his 2017 PhD thesis, “Just-in-time Analytics Over Heterogeneous Data and Hardware”, which was completed under the supervision of IC professor and DIAS head Anastasia Ailamaki. He is currently a research assistant at Facebook London.
The annual EuroSys Roger Needham PhD Award, donated by Microsoft Research Cambridge, was presented in March at the EuroSys 2019 conference in Dresden, Germany. It is given to a student from a European university for an outstanding thesis in the area of systems research that displays scientific rigor and originality, as well as potential for practical applications. Winners receive €2,000.
EuroSys is the European chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Operating Systems (ACM SIGOPS).
