Joppe W. Bos, who in 2012 received his PhD from Laboratory for Cryptologic Algorithms (LACAL), headed by Prof. Arjen Lenstra, was nominated for an EPFL doctorate Award 2013.

The doctoral examination committee of the Research Commission of EPFL nominated Joppe W. Bos to acknowledge his thesis entitled “On the cryptanalysis of public-key cryptography”.

Only the doctoral theses which are considered absolutely exceptional, that is those judged to be among the top 5-10% defended in the year, are nominated for this award. Dr. Bos’s thesis was not only among the six nominees, but the committee also granted him a special distinction.

Joppe W. Bos is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Cryptography Research Group at Microsoft Research Redmond, WA, USA. His areas of interest include computational number theory, public-key cryptanalysis, fast arithmetic and efficient implementations of cryptologic algorithms, with a focus on elliptic curve cryptography and integer factorization algorithms.
