IOP - Institute of Physics

IOP Science is a platform giving access to more than 70 online journals published by IOP Publishing. Dedicated to both researchers and students, it offers an online service that promotes the discovery of scientific articles as well as cutting-edge technics.

Since, in 2006, the EPFL Library had about 20 subscriptions to printed IOP journals, it has been decided to enrich this collection by proposing to the EPFL community nearly 40 titles accessible online.

Currently, all articles, including archives, present on the IOP Science platform are available for the EPFL community. They are dedicated to specialized areas of physics such as atomic, molecular, optical, and plasma physics, nuclear and high energy particle physics, astrophysics, mathematical physics, statistical and quantum physics.

In addition to the electronic version, the Library still subscribes to 3 printed journals that are accessible on-site in the Sciences Techniques et Mathématiques location.

As part of the negotiations conducted with the Swiss Consortium of libraries, EPFL renews each year its license agreement for the IOP Science Extra product.

The negotiation process is essential to contain the price increases in the editorial market and to ensure appropriate access conditions to the subscribed titles. Therefore, major scientific issues, such as Open Access (OA) publishing and Text and Data Mining (TDM), are also discussed during bargaining.
