Professor Henrik Rønnow has been elected chair of the European Neutron Scattering Association.

The European Neutron Scattering Association (ENSA) is an umbrella organization of about 6-8000 scientists in Europe. An affiliation of national neutron-scattering societies and committees, ENSA’s mission is to provide a platform for discussion and a focus for action in neutron scattering and related topics in Europe.

In the beginning of December, ENSA elected EPFL’s Professor Henrik Rønnow as its new Chair, replacing Professor Christiane Alba-Simionesco from the Lund Institute of Advanced Neutron and X-Ray Science.

Professor Rønnow directs the Laboratory for Quantum Magnetism at EPFL’s Institute of Physics, where he and his team research magnetic phenomena in correlated electron materials ranging from local spin clusters to novel superconductors. The goal is to combine the powerful techniques of neutron scattering at large scale facilities with in-house measurements under extreme conditions.
