EPFL Management has decided to appoint Prof. Henrik M. Rønnow, presently Director of the Institute of Physics (IPHYS), as the future SB Dean.

Based on the proposal of the Search Committee, EPFL Management has decided to appoint Prof. Henrik M. Rønnow, presently Director of the Institute of Physics (IPHYS), as the future SB Dean.

Henrik M. Rønnow investigates low-dimensional quantum systems. He has not only contributed to fundamental advances in the field of quantum magnetism, resulting in an impressive list of publications in leading journals, but has also developed innovative concepts for neutron scattering instrumentation. He has won several awards, including an ERC Starting Grant in 2010 and an ERC Synergy Grant in 2018. Since April 2021, he has been leading the EPFL Institute of Physics (IPHYS), which includes over 58 units and more than 500 staff. He works closely with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and has helped to strengthen the links between our two institutions.

Two-Year Interim Period

Henrik M. Rønnow will assume office on January 1, 2027. Until then, Paul Dyson will continue to lead the Dean’s office. Henrik will continue to oversee the leadership of IPHYS. This arrangement ensures an optimal transition for the School. EPFL Management would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Dyson for agreeing to continue steering the School’s leadership and development during this time, while progressively integrating Henrik into the School’s management.
