To mark the end of the academic semester, an online forum was organized on Friday, December 18, 2020, by the Architecture Section of the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne. This series of sessions were an opportunity to discover the activities of the different architectural design studios. Participating in the session "Urbanization and Territories", the design studio of Prof. Emmanuel Rey presented his prospective approach for the design of a new river neighborhood on one of the industrial sites of the Grand Lyon.

Led by Prof. Paola Viganò, the online session uncovered various student works carried out respectively within the framework of the architectural design studios of professors Emmanuel Rey, Paola Viganò, and Camille Frechou, as well as to understand the different didactical and methodological approaches.

Prof. Emmanuel Rey’s studio, entitled "Rhodanie urbaine", explores during four years the issues related to the creation of a new fluvial neighborhood. The approach focuses more particularly on designing - from the urban project to the constructive detail - a dense, mixed, and interconnected neighborhood in the vicinity of the Rhône.

The chosen site for this academic year 2019-2020 constituted a field of investigation particularly suited to such an exploratory approach. This is an industrial sector of Givors, in the southern part of the Grand Lyon, which has significant potential for development with a view to urban regeneration and, more broadly, to transition to sustainability.
