Constructing and maintaining concrete structures efficiently and sustainably means that the required performance goals are met while keeping construction time, costs, and life-cycle costs to a minimum.

Ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concretes (UHPFRC) are very dense and show extraordinary mechanical properties. They offer a unique potential to significantly improve the durability and load-carrying capacity of existing and new structures, with minimum cross sections and rapid construction times.

UHPFRC have been developed at the Structural Maintenance and Safety Laboratory, and composite UHPFRC – reinforced concrete elements have been tested in the laboratory and investigated by numerical and analytical models. The outcomes of this research have been implemented in several full-scale appplications on highway structures and buildings with immediate benefit to the stakeholders and end-users.
