A selection of research projects and studios emanating from MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning was published in a 447 pages book edited by Sarah Hirschman and published by SA+P Press entitled Testing to Failure: Design and Research in MIT’s Department of Architecture, (available at amazon.com).

This book presents student and faculty work produced between 2009 and 2011 in a sequence of forums and discussions. Prof. Marilyne Andersen’s work, now Associate Professor at EPFL and Head of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Performance-Integrated Design (LIPID), is showcased in this book both through an exhibition that she curated in the Spring 2010 entitled Delight in Greener Daylight (book available at Lulu press online store), and through one of her recently graduated Master students’ thesis outcomes (Siobhan Rockcastle), which was awarded the SMARchS thesis prize, entitled Daylight variability and contrast-driven architectural effect.
