At the beginning of September, Professor Weinand gave a lecture at CIT Blaton. Why does the IBOIS laboratory attach so much importance to working with construction companies? Prof. Weinand give us some clues in an interview conducted after the conference.

Abstracts:

In what context does your conference take place at CIT Blaton?

YW: We have spent a lot of time developing wood construction systems, new and more sustainable construction methods, and we would now like to transfer this fundamental knowledge to application. This kind of meeting [editor's note: between a research laboratory and construction companies] is crucial, because you [editor's note: construction company] are a player in this sector.
You are also looking for more sustainable construction, and I think that a connection between these two worlds needs to be made.

What are the barriers to the use of wood in the construction sector?

YW: There are several locks to be broken. First, public works regulations. We would like to have more direct contact with the companies that carry out the work, so that we can better integrate the manufacturing constraints at the design stage.
Secondly, wood is still an unusual material for many people, so there is a need for familiarization work with the administrations, especially those in charge of energy and fire resistance.
Finally, staff, including civil engineers, must be trained in the dimensioning of timber structures.
From there, we will be able to innovate further.
