To mark its 20th birthday, Le Temps newspaper brought out a special anniversary issue of its T magazine supplement entitled "2038, la vie dans 20 ans". Prof. Marilyne Andersen, head of the Laboratory of Integrated Performance in Design (LIPID) and Prof. Emmanuel Rey, head of the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST), featured among experts interviewed on architectural topics.

In an article entitled «Construire le futur», a prospective vision is developed based on integration of sustainability issues into the built environment. Saving non-renewable resources, controlling occupants comfort, adapting integration of technology or increasing modularity of housing in the future are the main topics addressed in this article.

The various highlights show that, far from limiting architectural creativity, constraints related to sustainability can, on the contrary, stimulate it. It also shows that an adapted adequacy of all implemented measures implies answers which exceed not only the addition of technology solutions but also emphasize bioclimatic strategies. In this perspective, a holistic approach of spatial questions can generate new interdisciplinary dynamics at the interface between design, well-being and technology.

These multiple stakes are at the heart of the axis “Integrated Design, Architecture and Sustainability" (IDEAS). This LIPID and LAST laboratories joint initiative fulfills the objective of a valuation and a greater integration of sustainability issues at the level of the Master's degree and of the doctoral program Architecture and Sciences of the City (EDAR) and is mainly based on an interdisciplinary teaching, on an implementation of an interdisciplinary minor in Integrated Design, Architecture and Sustainability and on a structured networking for the involved PhD students.
