Nanocrystals of non-noble metals possess size- and shape-dependent magnetic, catalytic and optical properties which, combined with their Earth-abundance, make them attractive for many applications. Yet, the control of their properties-dictating features is still primitive compared to what achieved for noble metals. In this Minireview, we present the state-of-the-art of shape-controlled nanocrystals of third raw transition metals Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu and discuss future directions to advance their synthetic development.
