What is driving the reconstruction of Cu catalysts during the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction?

In this study we combine uniform nanocrystals and in-situ tools to monitor the reconstruction of Cu nanocatalysts during the early stages of the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction. We reveal that an Ostwald ripening-like process is taking place, where secondary particles grow at the expenses of the primary particles. This process involves transient Cu species whose nature is still unclear. Read more here and in the corresponding highlight in Nature Catalysis!
