Benoît Seguin won first prize in the best demonstrations developed by the school’s researchers during the 21st edition of the IC Research Day.

Over 470 participants took part in the 21st edition of the IC Research Day at the SwissTech Convention Center on 8 June 2017. Three excellent keynote speakers provided an overview of the field of Visual Computing to a captivated audience of researchers, current and past students, professors, staff and representatives of the industry.

The day was ended with the awarding of the best demonstrations developed by the school’s researchers. The panel, consisting of the guest lecturers ( Dr. Sylvain Paris of Adobe Research, Professor Wenzel Jakob of EPFL and Professor Maneesh Agrawala of the University of Stanford) together with IC Dean James Larus, selected Benoît Seguin (DHLAB) as the winner of the Best Demonstration Award with “Visual Search in Digitized Art Collections.”

The demonstration was on the Replica project that aims to digitize the photolibrary in the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice), which has about 1 million photos of extraordinary historical and artistic value constituting an integral part of European cultural heritage.
