Conference at INSET in Montpellier
Prof. Emmanuel Rey from the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) was the guest of the Association of Urban Planning Professionals of the Languedoc - Roussillon (APULR). During his conference given at the INSET in Montpellier, he presented operational strategies to create sustainable neighborhoods and detailed the main conditions to create an alternative to urban sprawl.
APULR has the objective to create networks between the numerous professionals in town and land planning, to promote the exchange of ideas between the various actors involved in urban projects and to help professional practices to advance taking into account developments in the field of research and experiences from exemplary practice.
In this spirit, Prof. Emmanuel Rey was invited to present various operational strategies implemented during the creation of sustainable neighborhoods. Based on research lead in Switzerland in the frame of the National Project "Sustainable neighborhoods" and on practical experiences of the Ecoparc district in Neuchâtel, his conference highlighted specific issues of this type of project.
"The idea of sustainable neighborhood being relatively new, there is still at present very few evaluation tools that allow to structure a clear proactive follow-up of sustainability at the scale of a neighborhood. The indicator systems developed by the LAST, in collaboration with various partners, aims precisely at answering this need", specified Prof. Emmanuel Rey.
