Clément Hongler is 2014 Blavatnik Award Winner

Professor Clément Hongler, Chair of Statistical Field Theory at EPFL, has been named Blavatnik Regional Award Winner for 2014.
Established in 2007, the Blavatnik Regional Awards honor the excellence of outstanding postdoctoral scientists who work in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Each year, the awards are given to three Winners and six Finalists who are awarded $30,000 each (Winners) and $10,000 each (Finalists) in unrestricted funds.
Professor Clément Hongler joined EPFL in July 2014, and holds the Chair of Statistical Field Theory. After completing his PhD at the University of Geneva (2010), he was appointed Assistant Professor at Columbia University in New York. He is globally recognized as a leading expert on the Ising model, which is used to describe complex systems, including ferromagnetism, quantum fields, biological systems, and imaging. The model is expected to have a great impact on both fundamental and applied science.
The Winners and Finalists of the 2014 Blavatnik Regional Awards will be honored at this year’s New York Academy of Sciences Gala, which will take place on November 10. The gala is entitled “The Beautiful Mind: New York Neuroscience Burns Bright”, and will celebrate achievements of New York institutions “in unraveling the mysteries of the human brain”.
