October 23, 2017 at 12pm - HIB Open Space 2, ETH Zurich Hönggerberg Campus, Forschungsgebäude D-ARCH, Stefano-Franscini-Platz 1, Zurich

Catherine De Wolf introduces her research on low carbon structural design at the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) and National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCR) at ETH Zurich on October 23, 2017. To meet the Paris Climate Agreement targets, the building sector must be carbon free by 2050. While sustainable design has traditionally been the realm of the architect, structural designers have an important role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions of buildings. The talk presents a database established at MIT to respond to the lack of embodied carbon benchmarks as well as the industry strategies and structural exploration developed at EPFL to challenge engineers to contribute towards the global vision of zero carbon buildings.
