Catalyst Evolution Effects: Xylitol from Acetal-Stabilized Xylose

Our paper demonstrating how catalyst evolution leads to increases in xylitol productin from acetal-stabilized xylose was published in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering! In this article, Questell-Santiago et al. demonstrate a catalytic process for xylitol production based on the volatility and unique reactivity of diformylxylose (DFX), which can be produced at near theoretical yield from biomass and, contrary to xylose, can be easily purified by distillation.
