The Helvitek Start-up is modifying its development to adapt to the COVID-19 health crisis by offering a protective film mask protecting healthcare personnel from lesions from the prolonged wearing of FFP2 and N95 masks.

Théo-Tim Denisart, co-founder of Helvitek and student in Management, Technology and Entrepreneurship (MTE), had already presented us his high-quality anti-pollution mask at the end of 2019 to protect the urban population from fine particles.

With the current health crisis, this start-up based in EPFL Innovation Park (EIP) has decided to develop a new product to make a contribution to the fight against COVID-19. Photos of injuries caused by healthcare workers' masks have been seen around the world, which encouraged the founders of Helvitek to use their know-how to offer an emergency solution and offer a comfortable variant while ensuring protection and waterproofing.

Thanks to support (especially financial) from the Foundation for Technological Innovation (FIT) and the Service for the Promotion of the Economy and Innovation (SPEI), this project was able to be completed in record time. Their product will be available in the coming weeks, primarily in Switzerland.

New orientation of a Master project

Théo-Tim Denisart, was able to benefit from one of the rare authorizations to carry out his Master MTE project within his start-up. This allows him to continue his entrepreneurial project and thus to be able to participate in and contribute to this health crisis. According to him, “start-ups have their role to play in this crisis, thanks to their agility and flexibility. So, such decisions - like quickly launching a new product - can be made quickly. "

The young entrepreneur wishes to salute the flexibility of the academic service and of his supervisor Prof. Gaétan de Rassenfosse, who easily allowed him to redirect the subject of his work. He also praised the support of EIP coaches Yvan Rueff and Marco Rüedi: "Thanks to their experience, Helvitek has been able to accelerate the industrialization, marketing and distribution of this product."
