In a summer workshop dedicated to the 2016 Solar Decathlon competition team, LIPID lab joined forces with LESO and ELAB researchers as well as a faculty from the Ecole d’Ingénieurs et Architectes de Fribourg.

The workshop, taught over a span of three weeks, brought together an interdisciplinary team of students from the EPFL and the EIA-FR to undergo a two-part program of analysis and design. After an intensive week of academic lectures, the students, faculty, and teaching assistants travelled to Paris to conduct an in-depth analysis of the 2014 Solar Decathlon competition houses. Working alongside the students, LIPID lab PhDs Parag Rastogi and Siobhan Rockcastle joined the workshop to assist student teams in their analysis and subsequent design exercises to encourage the integration of passive and active solar strategies and novel environmental design techniques. This summer workshop is one of several teaching activities dedicated to EPFL’s participation in the 2016 solar housing competition and LIPID will continue to take an active role in supporting this exciting new initiative in the coming years.
