The fourth edition of the programming contest "Santa's Algorithmic Challenge" gathered over 150 students and programming enthusiast to the IC School premises on Monday last week.

The fourth edition of the programming contest "Santa's Algorithmic Challenge" was held on Monday, November 28th, 2016. The contest consisted of 8 algorithm programming tasks that were solved by teams of up to two EPFL students. The goal of the competition was to promote interest in algorithms, programming and problem solving. The contest attracted a large amount of interest and 150 students from EPFL participated.

With an outstanding performance – having solved 7 out of 8 problems, the best team:"bzzz....lags", consisted of a single participant Andrii Maksai, who is a PhD student in Computer Science. The best team of Master students was "Havana Blues" consisting of Aimee Montero and Alfonso Peterssen. They solved six problems. Finally, the best team of Bachelor students was "Make Algorithms Great Again" consisting of Philippe Andreu and Jonathan Scanzi, who solved four problems.

The event was successful thanks to support from our industrial sponsor Yandex – which provided generous prizes and the IT system used to check student responses in real time – as well as thanks to help from experienced volunteers. The EPFL student organization PolyProg also contributed and the EPFL's Theory of Computation Laboratories 2 and 4 supplied food and beverages.

Finally, we would like to thank all of the participants for making the event such a success. We look forward to seeing you again next year at Santa's Algorithmic Challenge 2017.
