The IAGS and the LASUR explore the cultural context of hybridization in several neighborhoods of the Chennai metropolitan area
Workshops on hybrid cities were hosted at Anna University and IIT-Madras between 23 and 27 January 2017. These workshops are the first organized in the framework the project “Hybrid cities: Informal Resistance against the Violence of Urbanization in India, China and Venezuela” funded by the SNFS between 2016 and 2019. This project aims to analyze architectural, urban and territorial hybrid cases of popular occupation and thus of re-urbanization of land and buildings in Chennai, Caracas and Guangzhou. It brought together an EPFL research team with Indian local scholars. The workshops focused on the comparison between the formal and informal construction in the Chennai metropolis area of 10 million inhabitants.
