Paolo Ricci and Christian Theiler have been promoted respectively to Associate Professor and Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Plasma Physics.

Professor Paolo Ricci (b. 1976), currently Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at EPFL, was appointed associate professor of Plasma Physics. Ricci is a very creative and promising scientist; in recent years, he has reached the cutting edge of its field on an international level. His research follows three main lines: simulation and analysis of turbulence in tokamak fusion reactors, the dynamics of fast ions, and the validation of numerical codes used for the simulation of turbulent plasmas. His innovative research strategies will significantly strengthen the international position of the EPFL.

Christian Theiler (b. 1982), currently postdoctoral researcher at EPFL, was appointed Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Plasma Physics. In recent years, he has earned international recognition through the results of his research published in various prominent journals. While at MIT, Theiler developed a new technique for obtaining spectroscopic measurements of the charge-exchange in a tokamak plasma. He implements his research to further improve these fusion reactors in the framework of international projects. His new appointment will strengthen EPFL's activities in the field of nuclear fusion.
