As one of the two ‘Mirror Labs’ for the new EPFL Middle East campus in Ras-Al-Khaimah (U.A.E.), the research activities of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Performance-Integrated Design (LIPID) were presented at the UAE-Swiss Research Day, held on June 22-23 at the Forum of the Rolex Learning Center.

Prof. Marilyne Andersen was invited to give a talk on "Comfort and technologies ‐ from the individual's needs to cleantech" during the plenary session and her group presented two posters, one related to visual comfort assessment in workplaces in different geographical locations, and the other on a collaborative initiative with the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) named NOMAD.

NOMAD stands for Network of Optimization Modalities in Architectural Design and relates to a series of projects focusing on the optimization of the building envelope in a sustainability context. Based on comparative evaluations in two climates (cool-temperate versus hot-arid), these projects will most notably rely on a dual infrastructure: the NOMAD modules, that will be located on EPFL’s campus in Lausanne, Switzerland and on the EPFL Middle East campus in Ras-Al-Kaimah, U.A.E.

Prof. Andersen is also involved in the new Master in Energy Management and Sustainability program that will be launched in the Fall of 2011.
