GSM (Groupe de Spectroscopie Mécanique) is proudly organizing the 16 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INTERNAL FRICTION AND MECHANICAL SPECTROSCOPY. ICIFMS-16 will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 3rd to 8th of July 2011.
ICIFMS-16 will provide a forum for international scientists to present and discuss new results and ideas concerning the fundamentals and applications of elasticity, microplasticity and, particularly, anelasticity and damping of all kind of solid materials. The aim of the conference will be to provide an interdisciplinary forum for presentation, discussion, and exchange of theoretical and applied concepts to help in the progress of materials for energy, transportation, environment, etc...
The topics of the conference cover all the aspects of elastic, anelastic and microplastic behaviour of solids in any state of aggregation and structural state. Fundamental and application-oriented aspects will be given equal attention. Dissipative mechanisms will be treated both experimentally and theoretically. These include effects in:
* Transport phenomena: diffusion, heat transfer, thermoelasticity, hydrogen mobility and storage
* Phase transformations, diffusion and diffusionless, precipitation, recovery, recrystallization
* Magnetic and ferroelectric materials
* Amorphous and semi-crystalline materials
* Earth Science Materials, granular materials, superalloys, quasicrystalline materials
* Thin films and coatings
* Composite and nano-structured materials including Metal Matrix Composites, Ceramic Matrix Composites and Polymer Matrix Composites
* Dynamics of structural defects in solids including point defects, dislocations, grain boundaries, nano-structured interfaces
* High damping and low damping materials, resonators with a high quality factor
* Measurement techniques for linear and non linear damping: mechanical spectrometers, DMA, AFM...
ICIFMS-16 is the16th of a Conference Series initiated in Providence, USA, on 1956, of which the original title was: International Conference on Internal Friction and Ultrasonic Attenuation in Solids (ICIFUAS). Since the 14th Conference held in 2005 in Kyoto, Japan, it was renamed to become: International Conference on Internal Friction and Mechanical Spectroscopy (ICIFMS). The 15th event of the series took place in Perugia, Italy, in July 2008. The next ICIFMS-16 will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 3rd to 8th of July 2011.
