Exhibition: un Atlas de paysages pour Paris, Pavillon de l'Arsenal
Initiative and exhibition supported by the Prefecture of the Île-de-France region - DRIEAT, the City of Paris and the Paris Council of Architecture, Town Planning and the Environment, the HRC (Habitat Research Center) EPFL research laboratory, and presented at the Pavillon de l'Arsenal in Paris from 26 September to 27 October 2024.
From September 26 to October 27, 2024, the Pavillon de l’Arsenal will host the exhibition "An Atlas of Landscapes for Paris." This exhibition showcases the results of an ambitious project that explores the distinctive characteristics of the capital’s landscapes.
The exhibition, "An Atlas of Landscapes for Paris," presented on the ground floor of the grand hall of the Pavillon de l'Arsenal, conveys the purpose of the research conducted by the HRC EPFL team, the outcomes of public consultations, and the entire process of creating the Atlas project.
The French government and the City of Paris have launched an initiative aimed at revealing and promoting the diversity of Parisian landscapes and urban forms, while reflecting the perspectives of its inhabitants. The exhibition highlights the thought process behind this initiative. Paola Vigano and the HRC, with their unique expertise and experience, offer a personal interpretation of Paris’ landscapes and the challenges they face.
This work on landscapes opens up broader perspectives beyond Paris, completing the regional landscape atlas coverage, and paves the way for a metropolitan and regional synthesis.
Exhibition
Spanning over 25 meters, the exhibition is organized into five themes: the introduction, units, structures, entities, and landscape elements. Each section is supplemented by several contributions from invited experts, all from various disciplines, to deepen the themes explored in the Atlas project.
Through a hybrid collection of large-format maps, film excerpts, testimonies, photographs, and models, the exhibition "An Atlas of Landscapes for Paris" seeks to share with the public the richness of the landscape experience gained throughout the project. It reflects the collective work done since 2021 and delves into the unique features of Parisian landscapes through historical, sociological, and morphological analyses, summarized in thematic maps.
Teams
Paola Vigano, the HRC team, and other EPFL laboratories associated with the project (Gabriele Manoli - URBES, Paolo Perona - PL-LCH, Luca Pattaroni - LASUR, Charlotte Grossiord - PERL) each bring a unique contribution to the analysis of Parisian landscapes and the challenges to be addressed, drawing on their respective skills and experiences.
