Climate(s), towards a new paradigm for architecture?
The Ecole nationale supérieure d'architecture of Paris-Malaquais has published a book called « Climats », grouping together contributions by invited speakers on the growing influence of climate issues in contemporary architecture. Prof. Emmanuel Rey from the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) figures amongst the authors.
In recent decades, scientific research has revealed significant changes in climatic conditions. The issue of climate change has also become unavoidable in the public sphere. Nowadays, most human activities are questioned and their practice faces the need to minimize climate change.
A series of conferences organized by the Ecole nationale supérieure d'architecture of Paris-Malaquais had the objective to detail interactions between climate and architecture. The visions expressed by speakers from different backgrounds have helped to identify areas of influences, to recognize key issues related to global warming and to discover practical strategies in the perspective of sustainability.
Published by Infolio, edited by Thierry Mandoul, Jac Fol, Florian Hertweck and Virginie Lefebvre, the book « Climats » brings together the main contributions presented in this framework. One can find in particular texts by Gilles Clement, Pascal Gontier, Antoine Picon, Willi Frei and Emmanuel Rey, Matthias Sauerbruch and Jean-Philippe Vassal.
