A new camp on materials science

From August 17th to 21st, 20 young girls aged 11 to 13 years old could discover the fascinating world of materials. Atoms, molecules, crystals, families of materials no longer hold any secrets for them! Weird materials were also present since they could walk on a mixture of cornstarch and water (EPFL Polymers Laboratory) or make a piezoelectric loudspeaker. Researchers explained to them their work while visiting the SMaL, THEOS, FIMAP and LCMD laboratories.

Thanks to the support of the National Centre of Competence in Research MARVEL, this camp entitled "Matériaux super géniaux" takes place annually and a polthème for girls aged 7 to 10 years old "Diamant, alu, caoutchouc, ils sont fous ces matériaux" twice a year.
